Anzac Day

Hello! Happy Anzac Day! I'm at home today with Mummy, Daddy AND Grandad, who has come over from Auckland for a visit. We're about to go and have a BBQ lunch at the street party out the front. How exciting! Some people a couple of doors up were talking a few weeks ago about how there used to be street parties in our street with all the neighbours, and they went ahead and organized one for today since it's a public holiday. I can see chairs and a nice sun umbrella up already!

On Sunday I went out to Warragul to see Grandma's brand new house! It's got lots of interesting nooks and crannies. Perfect for playing hide and seek when I get older! I had my own serviette at the table when we had lunch and sat on the bench by the window to watch.

I'm lifting my feet up now and leaving them in the air so that I can regard them with interest. And yesterday I did a little half roll - from my back to my side and down again. I still don't have much control over my hands but I am waving them round and putting them in my mouth lots, as well as scratching my head. But Mum says I should try not to do this so much since I leave big red scratches like the one on my forehead - oops!

Hey Zoe and Susan! Anzac Day marks the day in 1915 during WWI when the Anzacs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) landed at Gallipoli in Turkey. They were meant to land further up the coast but the location got messed up (bad instructions from the British, confusion in the dark) and they ended up coming on to a beach with huge steep cliffs where it was almost impossible to defend themselves. But it's remembered because the Australians pulled together against impossible odds and it was the start of our national identity (Australia was a brand new country then - only formed in 1901). There are dawn services everywhere in Australia (and a special one in Turkey) at the same time as the landing was in Gallipoli, and it has become our biggest national day. They explain it better here .

Hullo Daniel,
It's good to catch up with your latest doings.
I'm taking a break from the painting & scaffolding, & am down at the local library looking at all your pictures.
Love & a big kiss from Grandma Ruth.

unfortunately my camera battery needed charging when we visited ruth so I'm very glad to see a photo of grandma ruth's unique pole house. I'm sure you'll become a very adept circular stair climber!
I'm already looking forward to hearing about, and seeing the friends Daniel met at the street party.
your ever loving gran Jill
